Avery started the 5th grade at Milam Elementary this year. This is her second year at Milam and the first year she will have more than one subject teacher. Ms. Christi Wall and Mrs. Kim Reece will be her teachers and Mrs. Anderson is her Challenge teacher. Avery has grown up so much. It seems like yesterday we were taking her to her very first day of Kindergarten and now she's almost 11 years old. She is such a smart girl and self-motivated. Last year at the fourth grade awards day, she won 9 academic awards for her good grades. She works hard and we are proud of her for many things, but one of them is her diligence with school.
On her first day of 5th grade, Terry took her to Milam and dropped her off. This is the first time her Daddy and I didn't walk her in. It made me sad, but once again, we "let go" a little more. When I asked Avery if she wanted us to walk in with her, she said she didn't care either way. Thankfully, she didn't quickly say "NO!" :) It probably won't be long before that happens. When I picked her up that afternoon, she had had a good day. Although she doesn't know any of the girls in her class yet, she has been ok with that and hopefully will make some new friends. She knows some yucky boys and they were who she sat by on the first day.
It amazes me how quickly time flies and that my sweet firstborn in now a 5th grader. I remember MY 5th grade year so vividly. I had my first "boyfriend" in the 5th grade. OH MY! I can't even think about that with Avery!!
I thank God every day for choosing me to be Avery, Anna and Tanner's mom. Like for all of us, God has a plan for Avery too. As she goes through this school year, my prayer is that she will turn to Him for guidance, study hard, play hard and make some special friends - as long as they're not "boyfriends"! :)
